She wants to see sport themed cards for boys.  Tough.  I thought I’d make the most of the challenge to get ahead of the game and do my Father’s Day card for my dad.  He’s a golfer, and after a rummage through a totally neglected box of embellishments I found this plastic golf bag.  I used a Tim Holtz texture folder to give it even more of a masculine feel.

Shabby Tea Room – week #110, Beautiful Roses

It’s been lovely having a day to myself, and I’ve forced myself not to look at my work iphone to check for emails, and I’ve been far more productive than I usually am.  I really mustn’t let myself be so easily distracted!

I got my design team stuff done in time to take part in this weeks Shabby Tea Room challenge. 

The challenge was to use aqua, pink and neutrals, with this photo for inspiration:

Luckily I bought some nice aqua roses yesterday at Ally Pally!  The lovely bird stamp that I’ve embossed with white powder is from Paperchase, there’s a larger version of the same image in the set too.  So pretty.

Busy, busy

Gosh, it’s been a hectic couple of weekends.  I’ve been up in the Midlands and we’ve been having a massive de-clutter of the house as we’ve decided that with me being in London we don’t need such a big house, so we’re going to downsize.  It was a bit mad for Andy to be all on his own most of the time in such a big house, and just keeping on top of the cleaning was a huge job for him.  I’m quite shocked really at how much stuff we have as the house never seemed cluttered, yet we’ve filled my 4x4 several times over with stuff for the dump, and stuff to sell/give to charity.  Thankfully it’s all done now, and we’re looking forward to getting our new place all nice (and I’m looking forward to shopping for new house things, but don’t tell Andy that!)

I was lucky enough to get back down to London yesterday in time to whizz to the Big Stamping and Scrapbooking show at Alexandra Palace.  I only had an hour to shop before the end, but that was long enough to get quite a few of the things off my list.  I got a couple of Spellbinder die sets, some distress ink, Paperartsy fresco paints, chipboard shapes, lots of card blanks and some lovely paper roses.  Amazingly I didn’t buy any stamps.  There were lots of lovely dies (especially the Memory Box sets), but as I’ve just ordered a few sets from My Favorite Things, I didn’t get any more than the two Spellbinders sets. 

As I knew I’d be exhausted after all that, I booked today off work, so I’m having a lovely morning getting up to date with my Design Team work, and hopefully I’ll get caught up on my blog visiting today too.  Here are a few cards that I made last week, but didn’t get time to blog:

 

I love this little girl from Scrapbook Stamp Society.  You can’t tell too well from the pic, but I’ve added some glamour dust to the fish so they are nice and sparkly.  The lovely embossed background was created by inking up my embossing folder with Colorbox Chalk ink in Blush Rose before running it through my Big Shot.  I love this colour.

DCM – Hat Boutique

It’s Zuzana’s turn to set the challenge this week at The Daring Cardmakers and she’s chosen the theme:

Hat Boutique

She wants to see hats featured on our cards this week.  I was torn between putting a hat on a little bird, but as I’ve done a few bird cards recently, I went for my other idea to use this lovely little hat stamp from Purple Onion Designs.   The photo’s not great as I was a bit late and had to take it without any natural light.  The patterned papers are from Pink Petticoat – I’m loving the chevrons.

DCM Colour Combo – Sorbet Colours

It’s Leo’s turn to choose the colours in this month’s colour combo challenge, and she’s gone for a gorgeous sorbet palette.

 

I was initially going to do something with my cupcake stamps, then I remembered a lovely Papertrey set that I’ve barely used, that would go perfectly with these lovely colours.  The background paper is MME, you can’t tell too well from the pics, but some of the polka dots are glittered.  I used some ink to die the seam binding a nice coral pink to match.

 

Happy Bird-day!

I don’t feel like I’m getting much crafting time at the moment, it’s not that I don’t get plenty of time to myself, but for some reason at the moment I don’t seem to be that productive – I think I should probably cut down the amount of time I spend online, or move my laptop away from my craft area!

We’ve had a lovely weekend again though.  Andy came down on Friday evening and we went straight off to our usual Friday night place – Bibendum.  As it was a glorious evening, we then headed down to Westminster Bridge and had a stroll along the river and a few glasses of wine at another of our favourite places, La Hispaniola.  We haven’t been there since the end of last summer, and it’s a shame but they’ve changed the menu, and they don’t serve the tapas we love.  Don’t think we’ll be there nearly every weekend this year like we were last summer.  We’ll have to find a new river-side venue now.

I had planned to spend today crafting, but my ‘considerate’ housemates decided to have some friends to stay last night so they could all go to a party.  They all came in at 4am, and instead of quietly going to bed, they decided to carry on for a couple of hours.  It’s a shame because I absolutely love living where I do – my room is gorgeous and has two huge big windows so the light is great for working in.  I’m also just round the corner from my brother and his family.  The only downside is sharing with such inconsiderate people.  Oh well, you can’t have everything can you?!   So instead of crafting today, as there was still a house full of noisy people, I went off for a wander around Spitalfields market. 

I do have a few cards to share, as I’ve got a lot of birthdays coming up over the next month or so.

This birdie card is for my friend Nick – I think he ends up with a bird card nearly every year!

I’ve got some nice new Scapbook Stamp Society digi stamps to play with so I’m hoping I get some peace and quiet this evening to come up with some nice cards with them.

DCM - Material Girl

i decided to use some felt and seam binding on my card.  I cut some roses from cream and pink felt using my Sizzix 3-D flower die, then added some little pearls to the centres.  The image is a digi stamp from Scrapbook Stamp Society.

Spring is here!

What a gorgeous day it is in London today.  I’m having a crafty day and it’s lovely sitting here with the sun streaming in, and all the windows open. It’s been a funny weekend – Andy came down on Friday night and we went over to Bibendum for some gorgeous prawns and a dressed crab (and lots of white wine).  We were all set to come home when I got a text from my brother who was in a local pub with my sister-in-law and some friends so we decided to hop on the bus and go and join them.  Bad idea.  We had plans to go down to the river by the London Eye for a nice walk yesterday – but guess who had such a bad hangover they couldn’t do anything?!  Yes, me.

I’ve just been catching up on personal cards as I’ve got quite a few birthdays coming up.

First is for my step-daughter.  It’s not actually her birthday until June, but she’s off to work in Magaluf for the summer next week, so we’ll give it to her when she goes. 

Next up is my mum.  It’s her birthday this Wednesday.  She’s off to Spain too – but somewhere a bit nicer than Magaluf!! My mum and dad are off to Marbella today.  My dad is still recovering from a knee operation so I hope the break will do him good.

DCM - Box of Tricks

It’s Fran’s turn to set the dare this week, and her challenge is:

A Box of Tricks
I'd like you to feature a box or something box-shaped on your projects - it could be a 3D project, decorated box, box shaped embellishments...once you start thinking outside the box (!) you can come up with some fun ideas!

This was quite a difficult one.  I searched for a small match box to use as my initial idea was to have a match box that you opened to reveal a greeting, but as I only had a huge match box, I decided to make my own box shape.  As I’m so rubbish at stuff like that, I thought making a match box was too ambitious, so I decided to have flowers coming out of my box instead:

The papers are from Pink Petticoat’s new design’s – aren’t they scrummy?  And of course, my usual little tag from Papertrey – I thought a get well theme would be nice for this box of flowers.  I certainly won’t be putting this card in the post to anyone though – I’d have to make another box to put it in first!!
